Registration is now closed for the Concussion baseline testing. However there are still session slots available at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm. They are on a first come first serve basis so please be there early if you would still like to get your player tested. Players must be 12 yrs or older.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
You can’t see a concussion. A concussion is a brain injury. Concussions are caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body. Even a “ding,” “getting your bell rung,” or what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious. They can range from mild to severe and disrupt the way the brain normally works. A concussion can occur with or without loss of consciousness and they affect people differently.

WHAT IS BASELINE TESTING AND WHY DOES MY CHILD NEED IT?
Multiple concussions over time or a second concussion before the first one has healed can cause long-lasting problems that can affect performance in school, work, and social relationships. If you play sports you are at risk of incurring a sports related concussion. However, concussions can happen at any time such as falling off a bike or the monkey bars or even tripping while walking. EDHYLAX promotes safety first and wants all its athletes to be tested not just in the event of a sports related concussion but for all those little or big incidents that just happen in life.

Our athletes take the test prior to the season and if the athlete is believed to have suffered a concussion (on or off the field) they re-take the exam to help determine the extent of the injury and if the injury has healed. By having your player’s specific test results before and after an injury your doctor is able to essentially compare apples to apples instead of having to use a generalized baseline that may not be as accurate. Having accurate test results helps physicians to make sound decisions as to rehabilitation, recovery, and when return-to-play is appropriate and safe. This test can be used any time within the recommended window even if your Athlete suffers a possible concussion unrelated to sports or lacrosse.

HOW DOES THE TESTING WORK?
Using a computerized exam called ImPACT (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) we are able to establish a preseason baseline of cognitive abilities. This test tracks information such as memory, reaction time, processing speed, and concentration. It is simple and set up like a video game. This is the same test that is used in the NFL, NHL, MLB, and many college athletic programs.
